Bunting General-Purpose
Grate Magnets provide a properly configured, high-density magnetic
field to trap and hold ferrous fines, fragments, and small metal
objects. Stainless steel tubing and frames are welded into strong,
integral units. They can be installed - or simply laid - inside
hoppers, housings, and bins - and easily removed for cleaning.
Grates are built for low-abrasion applications and should measure
at least twice the size of your outlet opening, so as not to restrict
product flow.
General-Purpose Grate Magnets consist of multi-polarity 1-inch diameter
cartridges arranged on 2-inch centers. They're available in round,
square, and rectangular configurations from 4" through 36"
in size.
Plain Style General-Purpose Grate Magnets are for use in choke or
flood feed applications or for materials that have a tendency to
bridge. Select rod or angular baffles for enhanced magnetic separation
in free-flow applications.

- Drawer Separators |
Bunting HF Series
Drawer Magnets effectively remove ferrous fines and fragments from
free-flowing materials. They are designed especially for high-flow
applications. Standard drawers intended for normal tramp iron collection
typically consist of two to four removable trays made up of 1"
diameter Bunting Magnetic Cartridges located on 2" centers
and staggered from tray to tray for increased contact with the product
flow. Standard Ceramic magnetic material offers the "reachout"
and "wipe-off" resistance needed for most applications.
For even closer contact, we make HF Drawers with cartridges arrayed
on 11/2" centers. This "close-cartridge" design provides
a more concentrated magnetic field and increased contact between
cartridges and product. Close-cartridge drawers offer excellent
separation where bridging is not a problem but ferrous fines are.
For abrasive non-food applications, a hard-chrome tray option is
available. Plate Housing Magnets should be used in place of drawer
magnets for severely abrasive applications.
To meet high purity standards for products that tend to bridge easily,
we offer "Waterfall" housings that have five rows of cartridges
arrayed on wide 3" centers
Standard and Stainless Steel Housings
Standard drawer housings are constructed of heavy-duty mild steel.
Stainless steel housings are also available. They're required for
certain sanitary applications and whenever Rare Earth magnets are
used. Stainless steel stands up to most corrosive environments,
resists wear, and is the right choice when "clean room"
standards must be met. Optional adapters permit easy installation
of housings in most round, square, or rectangular spouting.
Manual and Self-Cleaning Models
You have three choices in cleaning options: manual, "manual"
self-cleaning, and pneumatic self-cleaning.
On Manual Models, trays slide in and out from behind the access
door for easy cleaning.
On Manual Self-Cleaning Drawers, hand-operated stainless steel collection
sleeves slide out and away from stationary magnetic cartridges.
As the sleeves clear the magnets, tramp metal falls off for easy
collection. No manual wiping required.
Pneumatic Self-Cleaning Models
Bunting Pneumatic Self-Cleaning Drawers do all the work for you.
The pneumatically powered cleaning mechanism releases ferrous contaminants
into the discharge area automatically. We can provide timer or push-button
controls. If you expect rapid contaminant accumulation or if your
unit will be installed in a hard-to-reach location, you should consider
the long-term savings in time and labor our Pneumatic Self-Cleaning
Model offers.

- Hump Separators |
Standard
Hump Magnets
Bunting Hump Magnets remove large pieces of tramp iron as well as
fine ferrous fragments from gravity-flow materials before they reach
storage bins or processing equipment. The "hump" shape
directs the product flow into the magnetic field and also breaks
up clumps of material for maximum protection against entrapped contaminants.
Materials that bridge easily with grate-type magnets flow smoothly
through these units.
Easy Manual Cleaning
Hump Magnets have two Bunting Plate Magnets hinged and gasketed
to the rugged steel housing. These plate magnets unlatch and swing
open for quick manual cleaning.
Self-Cleaning Hump Magnets
Pneumatic control provides safe, easy operation. Cleaning takes
only seconds to complete. With the product flow temporarily shut
down, the magnets and a pneumatic discharge gate swing back to release
the tramp iron collected through a special discharge chute. Magnets
and gate then return to operating position so that processing can
resume. Bunting can provide a complete pre-engineered control package
for proper sequencing of the cleaning cycle. Contact a Bunting sales
engineer to discuss this important option.
You can locate self-cleaning separation equipment where it will
work most efficiently - where product velocity and depth of flow
are lowest - without considering accessibility. Your operator needn't
handle magnets in remote or awkward locations. Self-Cleaning Humps
can save you operator time and downtime.

- Drum Separators |
Magnetic
Drum Separators and Drum Separator Housings
Bunting Standard Magnetic Drum Separators are manufactured of 302/304
stainless steel and have cleats to aid in pulling tramp metal through
and out of the magnetic field. Drums are available with both Ceramic
and Rare Earth magnets. Standard Ceramic Drums are effective in
removing tramp metal such as chips, nuts, and bolts. Rare Earth
models are recommended for applications involving extremely small
metal fines or weakly magnetic materials.
The optional Drum Separator Housing is constructed of 11-gauge mild
steel or stainless steel. Both models have 1/4" x 2" flanges.
They are equipped with a flow controller at the infeed that protects
the drum from direct impact and wear while it regulates and directs
the product flow over the drum surface. The controller also prevents
wash-back. An angular baffle at the discharge end diverts tramp
metal from the flowing product. The location of the stationary magnet
inside the rotating drum is user-adjustable for fine-tuning operation
in the field. The units has precision sealed bearings that can be
replaced with only partial disassembly. Standard unit drives can
be provided in either single or three-phase voltage. Explosion-proof
motors are available on request. Motor horsepower varies with the
size of the unit.
